The two men were arrested for Trafficking In Industrial Hemp (>5 LBS)… (and some other charges)

Apart from being a very strange charge, it also tells me that you can be likely be charged with trafficking in industrial hemp

I only traffic organic, free-range, small-batch hemp, you’ve probably never heard of it.

If trafficking industrial hemp is illegal wont the farmers get charged?

Or are there licenses.

/looking at those mugshots, I’m thinking these guys thought they’ll get high and/or this was them hitting the big times with such a score 😐

They must be really really into bespoke twine

So how much did these two geniuses hope to net? Ten bucks?  Even if they would be able to pass it off as “real” no one outside of some middle school kids would even consider buying it.

The only thing that makes sense here is if they were trying to start their own hemp farm and didn’t want to spend the money on seed crop.

The farmers would be wise to put signs around the fields stating that the hemp will not get you high.

It only would help if these idiots could read.

There are licenses and hemp can only be sold by a license holder to a licensed processing center.  Not sure what these guys were going to do with it.  Unless they thought it was MJ or they were getting in to the hemp oil business.

Illinois Laws Kentucky probably has the same laws but there’s a mule involved in the trade somewhere.  Probably as a go-between or middle mule.

Wonder if they were stealing to smoke or sell as smokable, or stealing to sell as hemp.

Hemp is legal in Georgia now and that led to some counties no longer busting people for weed (small amounts, anyhow) since their test can’t tell the difference between hemp and weed.

It’s a poorly named charge.  They legalized the plant in 2018, but you need a license to grow, sell, whatever.  They’re charging them with trying to deal in hemp without a license from the state to do so, basically.  Putting goofy penalties for avoiding that license in was a sop to the “We’re gonna be overrun with slurs and beatniks high on the industrial marijuanas OMGZ!!1” crowd.

/yes, it’s still dumb – but not quite as dumb as the charge title would initially indicate

//not that there shouldn’t be a penalty for evading licensing laws

///but it should be handled like any other license evasion crap, not “Weed booga booga!!” shiat

fusillade762: Whassa hemp stalk?

Wasn’t this an episode of TPB?

Literally not enough THC content in this thread and fiber for the traditional summonings.

I see Subby is also from the southwestern Indiana area.

CSB

When I was in MN I attended a talk given by the head of the local meth task force.  It was the normal here’s what where doing and this is what to look out for spiel.  at the end he asked for questions and i asked who were the dumbest criminals he ever arrested.  Without hesitation he said it was when they they got a call from the power company because someone was shooting holes in the power transformers on rural lines. The suspects were pretty easy to track down because the transformers would quickly overheat and the power company could then direct the sheriffs to the area.  They found a couple morons covered in a weird oil with several buckets of the same oil sloshing around in the bed of their pickup, These morons had heard that the fluid in the transformers was full of PCBs (it is) and that they figured that must be close to PCP (it isn’t) so there was a gold mine in them thar power poles.  All they had to do was shoot out the transformer and stand under the hole with a bucket to catch the liquid as it drained out. I asked if they died of what must have been 20 different cancers before they made it to sentencing but he didn’t know.

I guess what i’m saying is that in the history of stupid criminal these morons don’t rate even a passing glance.

\CSB off.

“The two men were arrested for Trafficking In Industrial Hemp (>5 LBS), and Possession of Industrial Hemp “

Oh come on, they’re just making up charges for the sake of making them up now. Shouldn’t traditional theft charges be sufficient for this?

Lock them in a closet till they have smoked all of it.

I actually know one of these guys.  I don’t know the details but do know they’re idiots.

He was once arrested for driving to Colorado, buying a bunch of legal weed there, and then trying to drive it back to Indiana to sell there.
